CHANDRASHILA SUMMIT WINTER EXPEDITION (JAN. TO MARCH)

Though this is a high altitude moderate trek in summers but turns in extremely strenuous trek in winters due to heavy snowfall on trek and all around Chopta valley, Uttarakhand where the trek located. This is the only one short trek in Garhwal Himalaya which gifts an opportunity to climb over 10 feet of snow on alpine slopes of Chopta valley in winters. In snow fall season Chandrashila expedition becomes extremely exciting and highly challenging due to its snow covered path and steep ascending which pull our feet back. Snow advents in Dec and lasts up to March end in the entire valley. We need extra enthusiasm and well physical fitness to climb up to Chandrashila summit in Jan and Feb but it becomes easier in March. Due to extremely adverse climatic and trekking conditions in snow season, this expedition is recommended for youngsters and hot blooded old age people only. The trek takes you in deep seclusion of middle Himalaya just close to Greater Himalaya. A glimpse of any rare wildlife species like Musk deer, Snow leopard, Monal, Thar etc, during the expedition doubles the excitement.

We offer proper knowledge, adequate assistance and essential snow trekking gears to make your trekking expedition absolutely safe and immensely recreational.

All snow trekking expeditions are conducted by local youngster’s team who are certified from “Nehru Institute of Mountaineering” and have long experience in adventure sports activities.

Tungnath-Chandrashila winter expedition is a great opportunity for trained snow skiers since it provide a ‘kilometres long’ snow skiing trek with 45 degree slope on Tungnath Mountain. Magpie Jungle Camp Chopta is used as a base camp for all snow trekking expeditions in the region.

Contrary to popular belief, winter is a good time to be in the mountains if one is equipped properly. Most locals inhabiting higher reaches of the mountains don’t mind the problems associated with snowfall and seem to have a good time during these months. In these months weather is generally clear most of the days. Day time is pleasantly warm with one getting to enjoy sitting out in the sun and temperatures would be around 12-17 °C. Evenings are quite cold and one would need to be inside a tent/room or sitting outside next to fire with proper winter clothes. The evening temperatures will be around -5 to -3 °C. Nights can be very cold with temperatures in the range of -8 to 0 °C.

Please keep in mind that the above information is not exact and does not account for sudden changes. Whatever the temperatures and conditions rest assured we will be prepared to handle it with ease as we use equipment of very high specifications.
